CON·VER·GENCE – a coming together at one common center or point
January 27, 2008 will be just such a day, just such a coming together. A coming together to worship, to meet, to share a meal, and to dedicate our long anticipated Vision Quilt.
We will converge as a congregation in the Annual Meeting of the Congregation of First Presbyterian Church, Carbondale. We will gather that day, as so many faithful have for over one hundred and fifty years, to hear and act on the reports of the Ministries and Committees of Session (including the Nominating Committee slate of officers for the class of 2011 and election of four at-large members of the 2008 Nominating Committee); vote on the terms of call of the Pastor; and any other business properly brought before the meeting. Session members, Deacons, Clerk of Session, Pastor and others are already busy preparing their annual reports. The compiled report will be available Sunday, January 20.
Our convergence will continue in Fellowship Hall as we unveil and dedicate to the Glory of God the Vision Quilt. It has been nearly four years since the Long Range Planning team prayerfully constructed our Vision Statement: Seeking the Faith, Sharing the Spirit, Serving God’s People. Right away, a small group of members thought it needed to be translated into a visual piece. They set about gathering a team of people together, envisioning how the statement might come alive in a visual art piece, and then creating that piece. It has been a long time coming, with many more hours of work than any of us can imagine, and with many more hands having been a part of its construction than we might have thought. January 27, the Vision Quilt will be presented to the Congregation of the church, that we all might share in a deeper way the Vision Statement. Members who have moved away from the area will be back with us to share in the excitement of the morning, as we dedicate our work and our vision to the glory of God.
And what convergence of Presbyterians is complete without us sitting down together to break bread around the tables? So, yes – we will gather around the tables of fellowship hall for a meal together that morning.
In celebration, in hope, in faithfulness, in vision, in love and compassion, we will gather on the 27th and once again offer all that we have and all that we are back to God as we look at where we have been, and where we are going. We hope that you will make plans to be a part of this very special day. Look for more information to come.
